The garden is always filled with little creepy crawlies that can wreak havoc on your veggies. The key is to knowing what kind of bugs you have. It is always a good idea to check your garden a few times a week and really get in there and look. This time of year potato bugs, caterpillars and other beetles may be snacking on your potatoes, cabbage and broccoli. May sure to treat them with Captain Jack’s Dead Bug Brew, it treats any beetle, caterpillar or wormy looking thing and it’s made from a naturally occurring bacteria, so it is very safe to use. “But there are other holes in my beans, lettuce and peas!” Slugs and earwigs may be the culprit, they do most of the damage at night so it is hard to find them. Bug and Slug Killer will take care of both, just shake the product on the ground around your plants. This product is organic and also very safe. Squash bugs are also a concern for those who have cucumbers, pumpkins, squash and any other vining veggies. These bugs work very quickly, almost overnight it seems. If you have vines that are wilted that can not be revived with water, check underneath the leaves to see if you find the squash bug. They usually congregate in large numbers and can range in size and color. Use Broad Spectrum Insecticide, it comes in ready to use, concentrated, and those with a hose-end sprayer. You can use up to three days before harvest. We would be more than happy to help you with any gardening questions.
